Do you save up by owning an electric vehicle? Is it okay to replace our ic engine vehicle with an electric vehicle? How much will time-to-time Battery replacement cost? If you are keen on these questions, you are on the right page.
The high initial costs of electric cars are long-term investments for a sustainable future. But adapting currently available battery technology to this application has been a challenge. The present industry-standard lithium-ion technology has been a fruitful solution but obviously, a lot of research and development is going on in this field. Coming to the good part, after years of research, the cost of batteries has been reduced by 50% since 2016.
So what is Battery replacement cost?
Now Tata Nexon EV is India’s best-selling electric 4-wheeler. The vehicle uses a 30.2 kWh, 320V Lithium polymer battery connected to a 3 phase permanent magnet synchronous motor providing 312 km of travelling distance.
As Tata Nexon EV has approximately 31kWh li-ion battery, the cost of the battery comprises 40% of the cost of the vehicle. The 1 kWh battery price in 2021 is $137 worldwide. Hence 31kWh should be $4247 which is about Rs 3,10,000 in Indian money. Considering the other taxes and expenses the maximum cost may come up to Rs 3,50,000 in the present day.
Note: Above price is just an approximation according to current lithium-ion/ lithium-ion phosphate batteries.
However, people looking to buy Nexon EV need not worry about battery prices as of now. Tata Motors offer an 8 year/1,60,000 km (whichever is earlier) warranty on their batteries. So, even if you bought a Nexon EV in 2020, you need not worry about the battery for at least till 2025. By then battery cost would have gone down by a significant number. The battery prices will come down significantly by 2025 when more companies invest in the technology and manufacturing of batteries in India. It is estimated that the lithium battery price worldwide will come down to $100 per kWh by 2023 itself. Stay worry-free for the next 5 years and enjoy your green travel with Tata Nexon EV. Tata Motors has not revealed its battery prices and there is no separate entity selling only batteries for the vehicle as of now.
Home Charging
Don’t let the cost of the battery deter you from buying the Nexon EV. If you can install a charger at home or your parking, it will be a lot cheaper over the years compared to petrol or diesel versions. Charzer provides INDIA’S MOST COMPACT, AFFORDABLE AND SMARTEST EV CHARGING STATION.
